Flexible, Multilayer Film Made With 50% Reclaim
Target for new film is mono-material packaging to replace difficult-to-recycle multi-material structures in applications that include stand-up pouches.
has produced ultra-thin film from more than 50% recycled resin for applications that include stand-up pouches, replacing structures that are typically made of various materials.
The film, made by INEOS at its plant in Belgium from its Recycl-IN resin line, was processed on new Hosokawa Alpine multilayer film line that includes the machine builder’s second generation TRIO machine direction orientation system..
Introduced in 2019, INEOS’ Recycl-IN polymers are compounds of recycled plastic waste and virgin resins. The material is said to help processors and their brand owner customers retain the high quality of their products while increasing recycled content.
Compared to its first generation MDO, Alpine says TRIO 2.0 offers additional measurement sensors after the MDO to enhance control of the entire film profile; an advanced algorithm that adjusts and corrects the complete profile for best flatness and roll conformity; offers further reduces neck-in and trim waste; and provides the best possible roll-conformity and quality.

Products such as stand-up pouches already provide a convenient, low carbon solution for transporting every-day goods. This further development will ensure that packaging can be manufactured from raw materials containing a high percentage of recycled plastic waste and be recyclable in the future, INEOS says.
Recycl-IN resins are also certified as providing a reduction in carbon emissions of between 25-50% when compared to the use of virgin feedstocks.
