Oriented films producer Toray Plastics (America), Inc., N.
Oriented films producer Toray Plastics (America), Inc., N. Kingstown, R.I., recently launched Ecodear packaging films made of thin, biaxially oriented PLA biopolymer. One grade is a metalized, heat-sealable film that delivers good moisture and oxygen barrier; another version is a clear film for use as an inner seal layer or printweb. Ecodear films reportedly meet ASTM D6400 standards for compostable plastics. They are aimed at frozen foods, snacks, cookies, cereal, nutrition bars, confectionery items, and non-food products such as personal-care and promotional items, fashion accessories, toys, office supplies, and other retail goods.
