Plastics Processing Activity Lands Flat at 50 in March
Latest reading is a slight regression from February’s expansion but not enough to call it contraction.
Plastics Processing Index
The Gardner Business Index (GBI) measures the current state of plastics processing activity through survey responses covering new orders, production, backlog, employment, exports and supplier deliveries. A reading above 50 indicates expansion; below 50 indicates contraction.
The Plastics Processing Index’s time in expansion lasted just one month before falling back to a level 50 in March. This reading indicates the processing market, on the whole, was essentially unchanged from February. Gains reported in new orders and production were offset by decreases in employment and only marginal improvements in exports and backlogs. The Future Business Index declined from its peak amid concerns over tariff legislation but remained relatively strong.
