New Desktop 3D Printer Comes to U.S.

WEB EXCLUSIVE: Solido of Israel recently launched a new desktop 3D printer and announced two U.S. distributors. Its model SD300Pro for rapid prototyping or manufacturing finished parts is said to be its most affordable unit yet, priced at $9950. Unlike other 3D printers, the SD300Pro uses the laminated object manufacturing (LOM) process, which involves building up a model in “slices” by laminating and cutting sheets of PVC from a roll. The sheets are 0.168 mm (0.0066 in.) thick and XY plotting accuracy is said to be ±0.1 mm (0.039 in.). The printer is about the size of a desktop document printer (18 x 30 x 17 in.) and maximum model size is 6.3 x 8.3 x 5.3 in. Multiple parts can be build at once to minimize material waste, and Solido is starting a recycling program in this fourth quarter, whereby customers can send excess material and material containers back to Solido in prepaid pouches.
