A new film for in-mold labeling in thermoforming is said to deliver a look and feel comparable to injection-molded products. Developed , the film is a biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) that features an innovative surface layer that enables the thermoformed part and label film to be fused at comparatively low temperatures and pressures. Before this film innovation, BOPP could only be attached to thermoformed containers in a separate step, says Joachim Jung, Treofan’s product and 大象传媒 development manager.

The surface of the new film, called Treofan EPT, is a comprised of an undisclosed PP coextrusion. Treofan commercialized the film following a comprehensive series of tests with Illig Maschinenbau GmbH, a leading provider of thermoforming machinery and tools thin-gauge packaging (U.S. office Chester Springs, Pa.).

As opposed to the paper and cardboard labels commonly used in thermoforming, this BOPP can decorate the container on all five sides (all four lateral areas plus the bottom).
