Milacron’s First Klear Cans Hit Store Shelves
Clear, coinjected cans of PP and EVOH hold fruit pieces.
Shoppers in Seoul, South Korea, and Shanghai, China, found something new in grocery stores last month: pineapple chunks and slices in clear plastic cans with a double-seamed metal lid having an easy-open tab. Supplied by S&W Fine Foods International, a Del Monte Pacific Ltd. company, these are the first commercial Klear Cans, patented by Milacron Holdings Corp., Cincinnati, and coinjected of PP and EVOH.
The cans are retorted and fully microwavable. The can ends and seaming and cooking processes are all food-industry standards. The crystal-clear can is compatible with in-mold labeling (IML) processes and is suited to a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, soups, meats, and other products.
