The new IL-64 system gives users high-level control of up to 64 loaders, including such functions as ratio loading, reverse convey for regrind recovery, fill sensing, and more, all without the need for custom programming. Built around an Allen Bradley Compact Logix PLC, this new mid-range material-handling control has all these capabilities programmed in as part of the fully-featured system. Users simply turn on each function during initial set-up. Along with the top-of-the-line Conair Intelligent Loading System (ILS) and entry-level B32 controller, the IL-64 rounds out one the industry鈥檚 most complete material-handling control product lines. IL-64 systems are available in a basic configuration, supporting 32 loaders, 10 active pumps and 2 back-up pumps, while the fully-featured version can support twice as many loaders. Diagnostic/communication features include remote-access modem and two flash-memory devices: one backs up all operating software and programming, while the other is available to back up user settings. Users interface with the system through a 6_-inch color touch-screen operator station. The graphical display is easy to read, easy to use and requires minimal, if any, operator training. Color coded icons let operators know the status of connected equipment at a glance. Any interruptions to optimum processing are clearly signaled for fast resolution with no nuisance alarms. Controls for Larger and Smaller Systems The IL-64 is a mid-sized, mid-priced control that uses traditional central I/O architecture. For larger systems, requiring flexibility, modularity and expandability, Conair offers the Intelligent Loading System (ILS). This fully featured loading control platform supports up to 144 loaders, and up to 14 pumps. Multiple large-format operator panels can be positioned to allow users to control the entire material handling system, and monitor the operation of peripheral equipment, from almost anywhere in the plant. The ILS is available in all three connectivity/installation formats: Central I/O is the traditional way to control material handling systems, with all control logic built into a central control panel and with discrete wiring to each loader and pump. This arrangement works best for a dedicated plant or production cell that is unlikely to grow or change much over time. Distributed I/O offers the most flexibility. All the logic lies in control blocks near each loader or pump, and they communicate with the central processor and remote operator panels via flat-cable communication media. Hardware costs a bit more than a central I/O system, but the distributed architecture is flexible and easily expandable as a manufacturing operation grows and changes. Remote I/O combines the other two technologies, giving users some of the flexibility of a distributed system and some of the hardware economies of central. Up to six remote I/O enclosures, which function like mini central controllers, can be connected to a flat-cable network like distributed I/O blocks. For processors seeking a smaller, flexible control package at a reasonable price, Conair offers the B32 control system, which combines field-proven, industrial-grade programmable logic control components with easy, user-friendly operation. The B32 can be installed to serve a few as 8 loaders and later expanded to control 16 or 32 loaders and 8 simultaneously operating vacuum pumps. The original B32 uses central I/O architecture based on a compact Allen Bradley MicroLogix 1500 PLC with a 3.2-inch operator interface screen.
