Injection Molding: Smallest Cavity-Pressure Sensor With Higher Force Rating
Indirect sensor for high cavitation can be used with larger ejector pins.
What’s said to be the smallest injection molding strain-gauge cavity-pressure sensor is now available with a higher force rating. RJG Inc. has introduced a new version of its 6-mm sensor, suited to high-cavitation molds with small, tightly packed ejector pins. Like the earlier model, this one is intended for indirect measuring under an ejector pin. The earlier model is rated to 50 lb for use with pins up to 1/8 in. (3 mm) diam. The new version is rated to 250 lb for pins up to ¼ in. (6 mm).
The new model is designed with a sensor head that matches the dimension and installation pocket of RJG’s piezoelectric 9211 6-mm button. That means the new sensor has all the capability of the piezo model, but at around 20% lower price. Unlike the piezo, the connector cables of the new sensor can be bent and folded without damage.
