Farrel Pomini Dry Face Pelletizer for Rigid PVC
Solution minimizes die pressure and temperature increases.
Farrel Pomini is offering a method for processing virgin or recycled rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC) that eliminates traditional finishing requirements with its Dry Face Pelletizer.
The process begins by compounding the rigid PVC with the Farrel Continuous Mixer to a hot-feed single-screw extruder (a compact processor). The PVC cools as it passes through the extruder and moves on to the proprietary Dry Face Pelletizer which minimizes die pressure and potential temperature increases while efficiently cutting pellets. After pelletizing, an air transfer system completes the cooling process along with pellet classifying, and dust and fine particle removal.

According to the company, this concept eliminates the need for finishing the rigid PVC with a two-roll mill, water bath and dicer — enabling a smaller capital investment and equipment footprint as well as an expedited return on investment and enhanced safety. The compact pelletizer is easy to operate and can be fully integrated into the user-friendly Farrel Pomini Synergy Control System. The entire line can be completely automated with minimal operator involvement.
Meanwhile, the standard 6 L/D (length to diameter ratio) rotor of the continuous mixer provides a short residence time and low heat history, which is especially important for processing temperature-sensitive PVC. Continuous mixing technology also enables adjustable mixing intensity, achieved by changing rotor speed and orifice position. It also facilitates temperature control throughout the mixing chamber, rotors and extruder barrel.
