Extended Reach in Tight Production Spaces
Yaskawa Motoman says the GP8L extended-reach robot offers more than 5 ft of horizontal reach and over 9 ft of vertical reach.
Yaskawa Motoman (Dayton, Oh.) has introduced the GP8L robot, noting the automation offers high speeds in a compact footprint to maximize floorspace utilization and production efficiency. Saying the GP8L is ideal for logistics processes, the six-axis robot works for high-speed bin picking, induction and packaging tasks. Applications for assembly, dispensing, material handling and machine tending are also supported.
The GP8L features an IP54 body and provides an 8-kg payload, with 1636 mm (64 in) horizontal reach and 2894 mm (114 in) vertical reach. Able to be floor-, wall-, tilt- or ceiling-mounted, the GP8L features brakes on all axes. GP-series robots are controlled by the YRC1000 controller, which does not require a transformer for input voltages ranging from 380 to 480V, AC. The compact cabinet measures 598 by 490 by 427 mm (23.5 by 19 by 17 in), and the controller uses a lightweight teach pendant for programming, with a smart pendant available as an option.
Yaskawa Motoman says the robot’s long reach and slim-body design provide a broad working envelope, while the wide wrist-motion range eliminates interference. Combined with fast axis speeds and acceleration, these features reportedly improve application flexibility.
For installation, a single cable connects the manipulator to the controller, while cables and air lines are routed through the robot base to the upper arm to increase cable life, enhance safety and reduce teaching time. A cable installation tube facilitates fieldbus routing through the S-axis.
