Molder’s World’s Vortex Blank Core Pins and Plugs enable molders to quickly vent and aid in part ejection, thereby helping to eliminate downtime, delivery delays and customer issues.
Vortex venting core pins and press-in pins are made to industry standard tolerances. The pins enable molders to use a core pin which has a venting surface that is 25% microporous for maximum venting where it’s needed.
While many large shops may keep up to a full block of Vortex self-venting mold steel on-site to expedite the venting, sometimes a simple core pin or plug can make the difference. Vortex Core Pins and Plugs are made from a porous, sintered, self-venting mold steel with a porosity of 25% air by volume, with a series of interconnected pores averaging 7 microns (.0003") throughout the materials.
Using Vortex in appropriated areas eliminates gas buildup, reduces injection pressures, lowers cycle times and gloss levels, and substantially reduces scrap and reject rates. The pins and plugs provide a location-specific method for venting gas. Due to the porosity volume, one-fourth of the surface becomes a vent.
Benefits include tool simplification, prevents burning, eliminates shrink and short shots, and aids in part ejection. They also enhance part appearance, reduce gloss and cycle times, prevent knit lines and simplify melt delivery.
Core pins are machined and ground to industry standard tolerances, with sizes of ¼"ø × 3", 3/8"ø × 3" and ½"ø × 3". Plugs also feature outer diameters ground to industry standard tolerances. Tops and bottoms come pre-EDM and are available in packs of four with sizes of ¼"ø × ¼", ¼" × ½", 3/8" × ½" and 3/8" × 1". Custom sizes are also available upon request. For those in blow molding and thermal forming, Molder’s World also provides Vortex 300 series rectangular stock with 30, 60 and 80-micron pore sizes.
