CAI Additives Offers ST FR6 for PVC Wire and Cable
ST-FR6 is a flame retardant alternative to antimony trioxide.
CAI Additives has introduced ST-FR6, a flame-retardant additive positioned as an alternative to antimony trioxide (ATO) for PVC wire and cable applications. According to the company, it enhances flame retardancy through char formation and gas-phase fire suppression, ensuring thermal stability, dispersion and compatibility.
Cost surges and uncertain lead times have prompted the need for reliable alternatives to ATO to address supply chain challenges. Raw material expenses can be reduced by up to 50%, with greater supply reliability.

The ST-FR6 flame-retardant synergist offers similar processing characteristics to traditional materials, as well as cost savings and lower levels of contaminants including reduced heavy metal content. The material is ROHS compliant with significantly reduced lead, arsenic and mercury content, according to CAI.
ST-FR6 has successfully been used in VW-1 rated (a standard test for flame retardancy) formulations while maintaining mechanical integrity. No changes to existing compounding processes are necessary.
