At PTXPO (March 18-20 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois), Nissei will showcase its capabilities in liquid silicone rubber (LSR) molding. A 123-ton FNX110â…¢-12ALM will use a mold and dosing system from Elmet to produce a nasal respiratory valve emulating those utilized for CPAP and oxygen delivery.

The Elmet Top 700 dosing system features a 5-gallon capacity with an energy-efficient pneumatically driven shovel pump to achieve 99.8% material utilization. Elmet says the system, which has a standard 110V power connection, is capable of material changes in 2 minutes.

The tool uses Elmet’s SMARTShot PM, including a valve-gate-controlled LSR cold runner. Optimized operation comes via a touchscreen controller, which simplifies set-up and maintenance. With an undercut on the geometry of the nasal ports, the 3-plate Elmet mold concept eases demolding of the cores to avoid damaging the parts while optimizing the cycle time of 30 seconds. The four-cavity tool receives a 6.9-gram shot of LSR supplied by Wacker. Molded parts are delivered from the machine via a Harvard Factory Automation conveyor.
