Fakuma: Boy Brings Eight Machines to Friedrichshafen
Neustadt-Fernthal, Germany based Boy will have four machines at its Fakuma stand this October, with an additional four presses running at partner booths.
Dr. Boy GmbH & Co. KG will have eight machines in total at Fakuma (Oct. 12-16; Friedrichshafen, Germany), including four operating at its stand in Hall A7 / booth 7101. Automation and digitalization are themes for the fair, with three cells equipped with Boy’s LR 5 linear-handling system. In one fully automated production cell, a BOY 80 E hybrid working in conjunction with a BOY 2C S will mold wine spouts. In addition to the servomotor pump drive, the BOY 80 E is also equipped with an optional electro-mechanical drive for the injection unit (eSP). The rotational and axial movements of injection unit are carried out by two servomotors completely separate from the machine hydraulics. The finished two-component wine spout is removed by an LR 5 robot and transferred to an ultrasonic welding system where a plastic-decanting-insert is shrink-wrapped into the spout.
Boy’s largest molding machine—the BOY 125 E—will mold 77g (nearly 3 ounces) stacking boxes. With six contact points, a clamping force of 127 tons and a footprint of only 56 ft2, the BOY 125 E will mold and remove the boxes with the LR 5 in just 17 seconds. Transported to a printer, the boxes are placed onto an integrated conveyor belt after labelling.
The company will mold LSR dental protective caps on a BOY 35 E. The compact, vertical BOY LR 5 telescopic handling unit removes the LSR-protective caps from a four-cavity mold and places them onto a conveyor belt.
A 25 E molding machine running a medical application features a removal handling system that is fully integrated under the safety gate of the press. The sides of a breathing mask are removed from the mold by a picker and placed on a small conveyor belt that is also integrated under the safety gate. Boy says the fully automated production cell has a footprint of only 20 ft2.

Boy will feature eight of its injection molding machines at Fakuma 2021, including four running on its own stand.
