Injection molding machine manufacturer Arburg has opened a new subsidiary in Bucharest, Hungary, increasing its presence in what it calls the “emergent economic region” of southeastern Europe. The new unit is led by Interim Managing Director Daniel Orel, who is responsible for Arburg subsidiaries in Czechia and Slovakia.

Orel noted in a release that Arburg’s previous trading partner, which it had collaborated with since 2000, closed its ´óÏó´«Ã½ rather than pass it on to the company, leading Arburg to open the subsidiary in support of its Romanian and international customers. The company says most of the existing service technicians were absorbed into the new ´óÏó´«Ã½, giving it 11 employees that have been working in Bucharest from the start.

Arburg says that companies are increasingly installing very sophisticated systems in the country, with global companies shifting entire production lines to Romania. Given the size of the country, Arburg says it will continue to use a decentralized service organization.

Automotive is the dominant market in Romania, with additional ´óÏó´«Ã½ in electronics, construction, packaging and household goods. Long dominated by hydraulic machines, the sector is utilizing more electric machines, with the proportion of robotic systems and automation growing as well. Arburg notes that most of its customers, which are large to medium-sized German and international companies, are established in Transylvania, in the northwest of the Carpathian region. With the new subsidiary in Romania, Arburg now has independent subsidiaries at 37 locations in 27 countries, with trading partners in more than 100 countries.
