Allegheny Performance Plastics to Enter Health Care Sector
The custom molder has secured multiple projects in health care and will be adding cleanroom and white-room spaces, as well as injection molding machines, in support.
Allegheny Performance Plastics is adding cleanroom and white-room environments in support of new health care-related contracts, with plans to install a dedicated automated work cell later this year. An Allegheny spokesperson told Plastics Technology that the modular cleanroom will be expandable and built to ISO 8 certification to support multiple new projects for drug delivery and surgical applications. These projects will require the addition of two new injection molding machines, which Allegheny will receive in March. The company is pursuing ISO 13485 certification and is also evaluating additional contracts, including potential diagnostic disposable programs.
In a release, the company stated that the health care industry — with services spanning preventive care, diagnostics, treatment, rehabilitation and support — encompasses many applications that are a natural fit for injection molding, high-performance materials, which is a core competency for Allegheny. Allegheny has been injection molding for more than 85 years, making parts from a range of polymers, including high-performance polycarbonates, PEEK and PPSU.
