A rotomolded polyethylene boat set a Guinness World Record for the fastest pedal-powered crossing of the English Channel—7 hr, 6 min—in May 2002. That model pedal boat will be for sale in the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog later this year (hammacher.com). The English Channel Pedal Boat is produced with a 6 MI, 0.935 g/cc LLDPE, colored marine white and formulated by Chroma Corp., McHenry, Ill. This “marine grade” rotomolding compound contains UV-stable pigments, UV stabilizer, and antioxidant package. The boat is 12 ft, 2 in. long and weighs 325 lb. The boat is molded by Nauticraft Corp. in Muskegon, Mich. (nauticraft.com).
