New Use of Induction Heating in Composite Overmolding at K 2016
Induction heats the organosheet in the mold, as well as the injection mold itself.
Induction Dual Heating (IDH) is a new technology to be demonstrated for the first time at this month’s K 2016 show in Dusseldorf. At the Flextronics Manufacturing (Zhuhai) booth, Roctool (U.S. office in Charlotte, N.C.) will demonstrate this new technique for overmolding composite organosheets. The application is a 14-in. laptop cover 1.0 mm thick. Within a 1-min cycle, the system uses induction heating of a cold sheet in the tool, as well as induction heating for the injection overmolding, all performed on an Arburg press.
This approach, which does not use IR preheating of the sheet outside the tool, avoids the difficulties of handling hot, floppy sheet, as well as the variable of the sheet cooling during transfer and placement in the mold.
Meanwhile, at the KraussMaffei booth, Roctool will demonstrate its concept of “High Definition Plastics” with finely detailed mold-surface replication of a decorative texture while using 100% recycled material. Roctool will also demonstrate HD Plastics at its own booth.
