PLA Sheet for Signage and Folded Cartons
Bi-Ax is the first manufacturer in North America to convert NatureWorks' Ingeo PLA resins into film and sheet.
A collaborative effort between NatureWorks, Minetonka, Minn. and packaging film and sheet maker Wingham, Ont., led to the latter becoming the first North American manufacturer to enter the sheet market with a competitive, heat-stable, exceptionally stiff, high-impact biobased sheet, said to be ideal for signage and folded cartons.
Made from NatureWorks’ Ingeo PLA, this first biaxially-oriented biobased sheet product (available in white and clear formats) is offered at 10 mils (254 microns) and marks a significant expansion for Bi-Ax, as the company adds heavier gauge sheet products to its already comprehensive Evlon portfolio of 20-75 micron films. “What we recognized is that the technology we’ve been using to biaxially orient films gives us the unique ability to produce tough, higher gauge sheet products, without the nucleants or impact modifiers on which other manufacturers must rely,” said Bi-Ax’ sales manager Brad Harrow.
