Kansas State Opens First Bulk Solids Innovation Center

It's the first research facility of its kind in North America.

Kansas State University, Salina, recently opened the (BSIC), the first of its kind in North America for research on the behavior of bulk solids materials (see Oct. ’14 Starting Up).

The $3.5 million, 13,000 ft2 facility offers industrial-scale equipment from a number of suppliers. One is , Lincoln, Neb., which donated rotary and vibrating-rod level sensors, dust-detection devices, and aeration equipment. Other equipment at the center was supplied by Coperion K-Tron, Sewell, N.J., and Vortex Valves, Salina. Companies sponsoring research at the center include ExxonMobil, Dow, DuPont, Cargill, Procter & Gamble, and Archer Daniels Midland.
