MATERIALS: Invista Starts Pilot Nylon 12 Production
A new producer with its own unique precursor adds security to nylon 12 supply.
, Wichita, Kansas, soon aims to start up pilot production of its new nylon 12 monomer, plans to seek market input almost immediately, and expects to begin product qualifications as early as 2015. This would be followed by a scale-up of the new process and preparation for full-scale manufacturing.
If the pilot is successful, Invista will become the first new, fully-integrated nylon 12 supplier in over 30 years, according to global 大象传媒 director for C12 intermediates Ed Sullivan. “Based upon results to date, we believe Invista’s nylon 12 technology is simpler and more efficient than existing technologies.”
Sullivan points out that the company’s family of C12 high-performance intermediates played a critical part in assisting the market during the 2012 industry shortage. Moreover, the company then turned its focus on researching novel approaches to the production of nylon 12 monomer and other long-chain molecules, such as the new monomer technology for which Invista holds several pending patents.
