At the recent NPE show in Chicago, Invista announced its new engineering polymers ����ý, based in Mississauga, Ont. Initially, Invista is focused on global marketing of nylon 66 grades, though PET and PBT are likely additions and nylon 6 could be coming, too. Based in Wichita, Kan., Invista already supplies PET packaging resins, nylon and PET fibers, and PET films. Its strategy in engineering materials is to offer “a simplified portfolio of products, each with the ability to perform in numerous applications,” said Kurt Burmeister, exec. v.p. of engineering polymers. “The benefits are economies of scale,” he said, and increased flexibility for customers to use materials in multiple applications. At present, Invista offers 24 nylon 66 grades that are glass and/or mineral reinforced, toughened, nucleated, hydrolysis resistant, and/or heat stabilized, as well as a general compounding grade.
