Copolyester Used in Pneumatic Tube Carrier

WEB EXCLUSIVE: A new application of proprietary Tritan copolyester from Eastman Chemical Co., Kingsport, Tenn., has been developed by Baltimore-based Pevco, a manufacturer of hospital pneumatic-tube delivery systems used to transport patient-critical materials between labs, pharmacies, blood banks, operating rooms, and emergency rooms.   The new Pevco TEC-6 pneumatic tube carrier was designed specifically to be made with Tritan, according to Pevco’s director of product development and marketing Steve Dahl.

The new Pevco TEC-6 pneumatic tube carrier was designed specifically to be made with Tritan, according to Pevco’s director of product development and marketing Steve Dahl. In addition to working closely with Eastman technical experts, Pevco selected a custom molder that had previously used Tritan. The material reportedly has helped differentiate the tube carrier from competing products. Its crystal-clear clarity allows hospital staff to see the inside of the carriers before they open them, providing greater safety. It also offers increased durability to withstand constant handling and transporting of drugs and specimens and gives the device body a slightly pliable, easily gripped surface that enhances its ergonomics.
 
TEC-6, which stands for trackable ergonomic carrier with a 6-in. diam., is available in black/clear, red/clear, blue/clear and green/clear as hospitals use colors to distinguish a carrier’s contents and to identify its home department.
