George Pierce Duane, Jr., who in 1965 founded  Chem-Pak, Inc.,  died recently at the Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center in Winchester, Va.. He was 87. 

Known in the industry as Pete, Duane entered military service in August, 1944 during World War II and served in the Army Air Corp. After the war he enrolled in and graduated from Randolph Macon College in 1949 with a degree in physics and mathematics. He met his wife Jane in Richmond, Va. They were married in October 1951 and relocated to Winchester Va., wherde Duane had his own insurance company.

Based in Martinsburg, W. Va., Chem-Pak makes specialty plastic coatings and is involved in packaging of aerosols and liquids.In 1985, he Duane was awarded a patent on a specialized
coating which he personally developed for use in the automotive molding industry.

He continued to focus and expand this patented product line to more than 50 products.

He is survived by his wife Jane, three children, three grandchildren and a sister. One of his sons, Randy, is actively involved in Chem-Pak.
